LEONBERG-HOFINGEN, Germany — Just in time for the big German tuner show in Essen, TechArt unveils its latest package for the Porsche 911 Turbo — not too wild, but plenty of sting in the tail.
TechArt started by installing larger turbochargers on the 3.6-liter flat-6 engine as well as a recalibrated engine control unit, a sport air filter and a stainless steel exhaust system with new manifolds and performance catalytic converters.
The modifications bump engine output to 580 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That's good enough to trim 0-60-mph acceleration to less than 3.5 seconds and boost top speed to 211 mph. Power is transferred to all four wheels through a modified six-speed gearbox that gets a larger transmission-oil cooler. (The TechArt engine kit is also available on Tiptronic-equipped models.)
TechArt fits its VarioPlus coil-over suspension with adjustable dampers that can be set automatically or via a switch on the instrument panel. It permits the ride height to be adjusted by up to 1 inch.
Of course, the package would not be complete without a set of TechArt Formula five-spoke wheels mounted with 20-inch Conti SportContact 3 tires.
Exterior enhancements include a front spoiler and a modified retractable rear wing, as well as a rear diffuser and side sills. The cabin can be trimmed in leather and aluminum.
The full package price for the TechArt 911 Turbo is about $257,000.
