LEONBURG, Germany — Gemballa is synonymous with faster Porsches and has been for 25 years.
The company's latest endeavor — trying to squeeze just a bit more performance from the mighty 911 Turbo — has resulted in the Gemballa Turbo GT550.
So named for its output (550 horsepower), the GT550 also delivers 575 pound-feet of torque. Gemballa modifies the twin-turbo 3.6-liter flat-6 engine, fitting a new stainless steel exhaust system with metal catalysts as well as a modified engine management system. Gemballa says the GT550 will gallop from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.8 seconds — even less with overboost. Top speed is pushed to 198 mph.
Gemballa's Porsche conversions are noted for their exterior modifications, and the GT550 is no exception. A full aero kit bundles a front spoiler, side skirts, air intakes, a rear skirt and a larger rear wing.Handling is aided by a new coil-over suspension, larger brakes and 20-inch wheels and tires.Custom interior conversions are tailored to the customer's specs. For more information, see the Gemballa Web site.
