Fiery Ferrari: more pics

Last week we fielded out a brain-busting quiz even Paxman would have shirked - could you guess the mangled supercar from its ravaged carcass?

Turns out, you lot are a knowledgeable bunch. It was indeed a Ferrari 458 which met a rather crispy, barbequey-type death in Switzerland (not France, as originally reported); the fifth 458 to die and the second via Lots of Fire.

Dead 458s seem to be becoming a regular story on Fridays at TopGear.com. It's rather sad. However, make sure you catch the TV show on Sunday where you'll be able to see one very much alive and in the enthusiastic hands of Jeremy...

World 3rd Most Expensive Number Plate

It’s hard to understand why one needs a personalized number plate, unless you are a celebrity. However, it’s a bit different with our Middle Eastern counterparts, where oil wells are the movies and Sultans are the celebs, who also happens to be car buffs. So, it came as a less surprise to know that the third most expensive license plate in the world was sold in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. A plate bearing solely the digit ‘7’ was sold for $4.6 million, in a government auction, falling just a couple of million dollars short of the second most expensive plate, ‘5’ (also sold in Abu Dhabi for $6.86 million), while falling way short of the most expensive plate ‘1’ (sold to Emirati businessman in 2008 for $14.3 million). In total, 72 specialized plates were sold on Saturday and it’s needless to say that a custom license plate makes a great collectible.

Dartz wraps up Bentley in snake skin vinyl on demand

Russia tuner Dartz never fails to hit the news with its bespoke rides. While the Russain tuner already has all eyes set on its much awaited “The Car With The Golden Wheels,” which will be presented at Top Marques Monaco, Abu Dhabi, it’s giving in to the demands of the high net-worth individuals to cover their cars with snake skin vinyl. The authentic Dartz snake skin vinyl have special dust-mood-water-off nanocoating which allows to keep car clean all over the year - even in snowy winter, or sandy desert challenge. Featured here is the Bentley Continental GT white in snake skin wrapping

Though we liked the Porsche covered in whale skin vinyl better than this.
According to Dartz sources, there are the rumors doing rounds that Roman Abramovich came to Riga aboard his megayacht “Pelorus” to buy “The Car with the Golden Wheels” even before it makes its debut at the Top Marques Monaco show.

Lambo SV and CCX: clamped

Don't let peasants or sandal-wearing hippies tell you otherwise - money is good.

You can buy an electric blue Lamborghini SV and an electric blue Koenigsegg CCX. You can then buy something called a ‘Harrods' to park them next to...

This money is good of course, until you encounter The Traffic Warden - a creature which feels no pain, fear or pity.

Exhibit A: these two super-exclusive exotics were clamped right outside Harrods on Brompton Road, with a collective value of around £1.8m.

While aforementioned sandal-wearing hippies and peasants will probably rejoice in the muzzling of these fine automobiles, remember this - they're owned by the family which bought Harrods for £1.5 billion.

Getting them unclamped - and it's a wild guess here - will not be an issue...

Video: Micra flight

Ireland hasn't won an Olympic gold medal since 1996. This must change.

With the London Olympics just a couple of years away, TopGear has a cast-iron plan to guarantee Irish gold in 2012: introduce the Nissan Micra Gully Jumping as an official Olympic sport!

Provided they follow a stringent dieting regime and, more importantly, don't kill themselves in a spectacular crashy plunge, these lads must surely be the early favourites. They'll need to put in plenty of practice before 2012, mind. Again!

Episode 6 preview: “good job”

Hello again, and welcome to the last of these wittering-on-about-what’s-in-the-show blogs for this run because, as you can probably guess, Sunday’s TopGear is the final show in this 15th series.
At the risk of sounding immodest, last week’s show was a bit of a humdinger and there’s no point pretending it was going to be easy to follow. But follow it we must and – with the modesty-o-meter now pinging off the minus end of the scale – I think we’ve done a rather good job.
First off, we’ve got Jeremy’s track test of the saucy new Ferrari 458 which begins with a small ticker tape parade and draws to a close with some shouting, having taken in several other Ferraris along the way including a 430 owned by a chap whose name you might recognise.
After that Jeremy, Richard and James are together for an interesting challenge in which they attempt to prove to the world that old British sports cars are great and never deserved to be killed off by the hot hatchback.
They do this by spending £5000 a piece on a lovely old roadster of some sort and then undertaking a road trip across Britain, taking in some of its finest sites along the way.
There are some fantastically silly moments in this and some properly funny lines from the presenters – Hammond’s claiming that he’s ‘warm’ being my personal favourite – but this is also an item shot through with some fascinating facts and a gut tugging amount of poignancy.
As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got another Hollywood star in the Reasonably Priced Car as Jurassic Park legend Jeff Goldblum takes his turn in the Kia Capostrophedee.
And that, my friends, will be that until TopGear returns at a point in the future that I’m not allowed to tell you about yet. Thanks for all your comments, good and bad, during the last few weeks.
Come back to topgear.com on Sunday after the show to see a video exclusive in which the presenters reflect on the series past before Jeremy and James get sidetracked discussing their surprising obsession with another BBC television programme.

'The Transition' - Flying Car

Terrafugia a small, privately held company has recently gained FAA approval for its roadable aircraft (i.e., flying car), and new improvements to the vehicle's design bring it only about a year away from being available to customers, according to Forbes and MSNBC.
Named "The Transition," Terrafugia's flying car takes the notion of driving a hybrid to a whole new level. The latest model features a more car-like look, with traditional headlights and even a license plate holder. Other new fixtures include an improved wing that folds up with a touch of a switch, like in a convertible car, rear-wheel drive with a continuously variable transmission, independent suspension and even a futuristic touch screen interface in the cockpit.
On ground the vehicle folds its wings up to achieve legal street-ready dimensions. The concept is for users to be able to drive it from their own garage to a nearby airport, allowing for independent, convenient travel. At the very least, it would help drivers bypass those annoying airport wait times.
The flying car will be an expensive proposition.Estimated price for a first-generation Transition is slated at around $194,000. Though that's out of the price range for the average consumer, it's at least an important first step toward bringing childhood fantasies of driving a flying car closer to reality.
The launch date will be in late 2011.

The world's 10 most expensive cars

While our focus remains the luxury and price in making the list, however, these priciest cars in the world are more specimens of automotive engineering than just blinged up machines of luxury. So, to give a slight idea of what it costs to get a lot of extras that makes your prestigious car convey an aura of elegance and gentility, here is our list of the world’s 10 most expensive cars.

1. Koenigsegg Trevita

Price: $2.21 million

Ä°nnovations are not always improvements but at times, they really are. This is especially true as Koenigsegg gives yet another shot to a complete carbon fiber bodywork in the CCXR Trevita, but with a diamond finish. Koenigsegg has developed a diamond weave where the fibers are coated with a diamond finish. The fiber is treated carefully in small quantities, prior to further processing the Pre-preg material. Apart from the diamond finished, silvered carbon fiber, CCXR Trevita features a double carbon fiber wing, paddle-shift transmission, Inconell exhaust system, carbon ceramic brakes, a hydraulic lift system, a custom navigation and of course, an entertainment system.

2. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

Price: $2 million ($1.67 million for the coupe version)

It is one car that you would get into and would never feel like getting out of. Unveiled in a strange yet suitable manner at the Concours d’ Elegance, the Grand Sport brings to the table sheer brilliance that makes the world of automobiles a great place. Embarking on the 100th year of motoring, the Grand Sport is one creation that complements the mammoth achievement. Make no mistake here, people, that 16.4 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport comes with a removable roof (polycarbonate material), not a retractable one, but it still manages to register itself as the fastest roadster in the world. Talk about stand-out features of this outstanding car, for me the pick of things is the reversing camera, which comes with a 2.7-inch monitor on the rearview mirror.

3. Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

Price: $1.8 million

Only five units of the Pagani Zonda Cinque were put into production, and all of them were sold out. Now, Pagani has unveiled the roadster version of the famous coupe and once again, only five examples will be made. The roofless Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster features a specially redesigned carbon-titanium chassis and has its roof stored in the front bonnet. The luxury coupe gets its power from the 678-hp Mercedes AMG V12 engine that allows it to go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, with a top speed of 217 mph. Weighing in at 2,667 lbs, the Zonda Cinque comes with full carbon fibered bodywork, Cima six-speed sequential gearbox and a titanium and magnesium adjustable suspension.

4. Lamborghini Reventón Roadster

Price: $1.56 million

Like its coupe counterpart, the roadster is based on the Murciélago LP640 (but has a completely new exterior aesthetic), with a V12, 650 horsepower engine that has a top speed of 340 km per hour. The “aerodynamically optimized” exterior is made of CFC, an extremely lightweight composite carbon fiber material. A G-force-meter is also new: it shows dynamic drive forces, longitudinal acceleration for speeding and braking, and transversal acceleration around corners.

5. Lamborghini Reventón

Price: $1.42 million

We are not sure if the roadster is still in stock but nonetheless, features are still to look at. Named after a prized fighting bull that fought in the early 1940s, the Reventón inhabits everything Lamborghini. It is made exclusively in Sant’Agata Bolognese, and its sharp edges, precise lines and clean surfaces are inspired by fighter jets. You’ll know it by its glass engine hood, solid aluminum fuel tank lid and opaque carbon fins screwed onto the black aluminum spokes on the wheels. A total of 20 will be produced.

6. Maybach Landaulet

Price: $1.4 million

The German company added sophisticated feel to their luxury saloon with the Maybach Landaulet. With 604 horsepower and a top speed of 155 miles per hour, this chauffeur-driven sedan can hold its own against race cars half its size (it’ll get to 60 miles per hour in 5.2 seconds. It comes with a V12 twin-turbo engine. The roof can be opened fully at the rear while the chauffeur compartment remains closed. Each armchair is encased in white leather. A partition screen with clear glass and curtains, reclining rear seats with leg and footrests and a Dunhill umbrella are included.

7. Koenigsegg CCXR

Price: $1.3 million

The special edition Koenigsegg CCX-R from the Swedish hasn’t just been picked by us for its price tag, but for traits which make it outstanding for reasons one many. It is the first car which isn’t just a pure road scorcher running on gas but a devil which surprisingly is eco-friendly as it can run on biofuel, that too, without compromising on the performance. It can go 0 to 62 mile-per-hour in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 250 mph, and our eco-friendly riches won’t mind having this one at the back of their garages.

8. Koenigsegg CCX

Price: $1.1 million

While the Swedish automobile manufacturer have long been known as safe and steady, not fast and furious however, the CCX was developed to deliver superior performance - both on the track and on the road. The sCCX has carbon ceramic brakes, a hydraulic lift system, a navigation system and a rear-view camera. CD and DVD systems, satellite radio, climate control, leather carpets, a roof stowage bag and car-cover come standard. Horsepower in the V8 engine is 806 units, for a 0-62 mile-per-hour time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 245 mph. It has a specially developed transversal six-speed gearbox, with optional paddle-shift. A chrono instrument cluster, carbon wheels, forged aluminum wheels, fitted luggage, special leather and color requests and Inconell exhaust system are also optional.

9. Leblanc Mirabeau

Price: $765,000

It is one of the most remarkable cars ever built in automotive history and fact that it’s street legal is almost unbelievable. The Mirabeau was specially designed to feature at the 24 Hours Le Mans race, but it is street-legal. It has a 4.7-liter Koenigsegg-made V8 engine that delivers 700 horsepower and a top speed of 230 miles per hour. Each car can be customized to owners’ expectations, including an optional semi-automatic transmission.

10. SSC Ultimate Aero

Price: $740,000

The car that snatched the fastest production car tag from Buggati Veyron in 2008, but still that won’t make you go for it. Consider the amount of carbon fiber this car uses, making it special even in the way it looks. The newest model will reach a top speed of 270 miles per hour. Carbon fiber rear spoilers respond to the amount of pressure on the brake pedal. Inside, a carbon fiber dashboard and center console incorporate a digital temperature control unit and tire pressure monitor for optimum driving conditions.
