The new MEV 3R has the same seating arrangement as the McLaren, shares its mid-engined layout and, if you build it yourself, will only set you back six grand (a 240 bhp ready made option costs just below £30,000).We can't say the 3R shares the Macca's stunning looks. The interior looks dingier than a student dorm. And the engine options have been lifted from the Ford Mondeo.
But MEV reckons you can see off 0-60mph in less than five seconds - a lot of fun for not much cash.
