DETROIT — Ford is rolling out traffic-stopping billboards nationwide that feature life-size versions of the 2007 Ford Edge.
The vehicle appears to be teetering precariously on the edge of the billboards. They are going up in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and San Francisco.
The realistic-looking 3D Edge models are hand-carved from Styrofoam and painted factory-issue "Blazing Copper." The vehicles have chrome three-bar grilles and chrome 18-inch wheels, along with a real windshield and back window wipers.
Ford said each 3D Edge takes about three weeks to make and weighs about 1,200 pounds fully built. They are created by MMT, designers of artwork for billboards. MMT built the oversized image of a baseball crashing into Detroit's Renaissance Center during the World Series last fall.
