Auto Motor und Sport publishes an article with photos and data on the Mercedes-Benz CL 63 AMG, anticipating the official press release from Stuttgart. The top of the range coupŠµ from Mercedes-Benz will be shown in public for the first time at the Paris auto show.
The CL 63 AMG will feature the 6.3-liters V8 engine that is spreading to all AMG models. The version that you can find under the CL's hood will output 525 PS (11 more than hitherto). Torque is unvaried at 630 Nm.
Performance data is, as expected, impressive: the CL 63 AMG will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds, top speed will be electronically limited to 250 km/h (one can imagine with plenty of headroom).
Externally the CL 63 AMG will distinguish itself for the typical sporty elements featured on all models prepared by the official Mercedes-Ben tuner: bumpers with integrated spoilers, enlarged air-intakes with chromed borders, front fog-lamps with chromed borders too, lateral air-discharge slits, radiator-grille with two horizontal chromed lamellas. The front fenders feature the usual chromed logo (in this case it says "6.3 AMG"). The rear of the car features an apron with an air diffuser and 4 chromed exhaust tubes.
The 19" AMG alloy rims sport 255/40 tyres at the front and 275/40 at the back, while the brake discs have been super-sized.
The transmission is a 7-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox that can be controlled with paddles mounted on the steering wheel. There are three distinct control-modes for the transmission, that control also the response of the accelerator pedal and of the supsensions.
The interior features sport seats with a massage function and the possibility of mounting an analogic IWC race timer on the instrument panel.
The CL 63 AMG will be on the market starting from january 2007, with prices still to be announced
