Cash-strapped Ford is looking to sell off Aston Martin to raise funds to prop up other brands in its portfolio.
Ford chairman Bill Ford said: "We have determined that Aston Martin may be an attractive opportunity to raise capital.
"Aston Martin has flourished under Ford ownership, which is why it is prudent to consider a sale of all or part of this prized brand."
Part of the reason Ford is considering selling Aston is that the supercar company's dealers are too far removed from the mainstream of Ford's other brands.
Ford has yet to make a decision on the futures of Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.
