It was a rather unexpected surprise for us all at Top Gear when Fiat’s new 500 Twin Air arrived in the car park. For all its much-heralded fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, it was hard to imagine that any two-cylinder engine would feel anything other than weedy and asthmatic.
Well, we were wrong. The Fiat 500 Twin Air was such a winner it was eventually heralded as “Engine Of The Year” in our recent Top Gear awards. It’s great fun, faster than you think, and makes a fantastic, “40-a-day smoking habit” noise.
