PARIS — Divine decadence was to be seen — where else? — in Paris with a crystal-encrusted Porsche replica.
It was the work of PGO Automobiles of France, which has specialized in replicas of the 1950s Porsche Speedster for more than two decades. But they are not usually covered with Swarovski crystals as this one is.
Amazingly, it is not the first time Swarovski crystals have appeared on a car: Earlier this year Rinspeed, an eccentric Swiss design and tuning company, mixed the crystals into the paint used on its Zazen concept.
Two years ago at the Paris auto show, PGO introduced its Speedster II, an updated and modernized version of the iconic sports car. At this year's show, PGO decided to add some pizzazz to its display with this completely crystal-covered Speedster II. A total of 300,000 of Swarovski's finest were placed on absolutely every surface, including the seatbelts and the head- and taillights.
The special Speedster will remain a one-off.
