SIEGEN-BIRLENBACH, Germany — It's not available yet in North America, but Audi's new 4.2-liter V8 turbodiesel already is drawing interest from tuners like B&B Automobiltechnik.
B&B's latest confection is the Audi Q7 V8 4.2 TDI, which goes on sale in Europe in early 2007. The tuning house says its modifications will tease up to 385 horsepower and a "respectable" 590 pound-feet from the big TDI engine. In typical understatement, B&B adds: "A driving performance on sports-car level is expected."B&B also tunes the smaller 3.0-liter V6 TDI, massaging it to deliver up to 300 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque.
This particular variant can lope from zero to 60 mph in less than eight seconds, reaching a terminal velocity of 143 mph.The tuner provides modifications for Audi's air suspension system, enabling the owner to lower ride height by up to 2.0 inches. Wheel and tire combinations up to 23 inches are also available on the Q7.
