The supposed Anti-Veyron from Porsche

There's been some talk of a possible new super-car from Porsche, that would debut in 2009 and beat the Bugatti Veyron's top speed by a couple of kilomters per hour. This got started by english magazine Autocar.

According to Autocar, this new Porsche GT1 would be a road-going version of the Le Mans car that Porsche has been developing, and it would be based on a modified version of the Carrera GT chassis.

Autocar goes as far as showing us a drawing, writing that "Autocar’s exclusive illustration is drawn entirely from leaked official technical drawings of the car". My problem with this illustration is that it is eerily similar to the Mirage GTR concept car developed by German tuner Gemballa (see below).

The similarities between the supposed super-Porsche and the Mirage GTR aren't limited to the looks: the Gemballa concept is based on a revised Carrera GT chassis with modified front and back end.

The super-Porsche might have a turbo-charged version of the V10 engine from the Carrera GT developing 950 ps (or a bigger bore version of the Cayenne Turbo V8 with the same power). The Mirage GTR has a turbocharged version of the Carrera GT engine, developing about 1.000 ps.

The most important difference: the Mirage GTR should be a couple of km/h slower than the Veyron.

So, what is it ? Prescience from the german tuner ? Porsche loving the idea of the Mirage GTR and making it its own ? A misunderstading on Autocar's part ?
