DETROIT — General Motors has confirmed that the all-new Saturn Astra and the 2008 Pontiac G8 will be unveiled at the Chicago auto show next week. In addition, the automaker said it will roll out a pair of special-edition Chevrolet Corvettes.
The Astra will replace the slow-selling entry-level Saturn Ion and is the U.S. version of the 2008 Opel Astra. The Saturn Astra's Euro-based styling should help bolster the brand's rapidly improving image with American consumers. GM notes that the Astra marks the fifth all-new vehicle in Saturn's lineup in less than 20 months. The midsize Saturn Aura sedan was named North American Car of the Year at the 2007 North American International Auto Show.
The Pontiac G8 is a rear-wheel-drive performance sedan.
The Chicago auto show opens to the public on February 9.
